Holy Sewing Dilemma or...What have I gotten myself into Batman?

What have I gotten myself into??? Now I know joining the Self-Stitched September challenge will not have the sewing police out if I don't make my commitment, but I was in a sweat all day yesterday trying to think of how I could make this work. After committing to it I realized that I could also use some of my knitted things too which may help. Although last year in my knitting craze I made mostly for other people and not myself.

I have shown you most if not ALL of my creations on this blog. So how boring will it be for you to see them all again. Or do I tell you nothing about my sewing adventures for the next 2 months and surprise you each day with a new creation? But what will I blog about in the mean time? What a conundrum!

I also may have a new project coming up which would take away enormous amounts of my time (sweat, sweat some more).

So yesterday I went through my stash of patterns to see what might be easy to sew up. I have a stack of 30 promising patterns to which only a few are reasonable for me to finish.

I found out I have over 100 patterns that I have collected in just the past 4 months. I have some of them up on etsy that just don't have the proper measurements for me. Take a look.

My brain is on information overload!!!

Should I continue with the Carmen Miranda inspired outfit? Which is not something that will be very wearable, yet fun to make.

What about this pattern and the fabric I have already purchased for it? I really would have no place to wear it, but I love the look.

Maybe they will hire me at Sterling~Cooper and I can wear it there.

And then what about the cost of making all of these lovelies? With my new, up-coming project, much of my spare coins may be going to it, rather than my hobbies. Do I make all of these items out of sheets I get for $2.00 at the thrift store?

My head hurts from all of this thinking. Arghhhhhhhhhhhh!

  1. I don't think showing things you've made again is a bad thing at all! You can always style them differently, or show them in groupings that feature their similarities. And as for what to sew, I can't help -- my impulse is to say "sew what you feel like!" but I wouldn't really enjoy wearing something impractical on any given day. Sometimes (often? always?) what I want to sew and what my wardrobe needs aren't really the same.

I couldn't get to your etsy store, but if you have some 32 bust patterns, would you be interested in a swap? I have a bunch of 34 bust patterns -- not many 40s ones but plenty from the 50s through the 70s.

  2. Thanks for the quick comment. I got the Etsy store link to work. I don't really need any new patterns and I kind of go between a 32 and 34...one size on top and one size on bottom. Ugh!!! I am still trying to figure out what is the best way to go about making patterns, whether to adjust the top or bottom.

  3. Andrea,
I see you are MUCH smaller, than I am. So I'll take a look for a swap. I might even have some patterns with 30 inch busts which I bet you could work better than the larger ones.

Hubby just came in to ask me what I am planning on doing with ALL THOSE PATTERNS!!!

  5. Yes, 30 bust patterns will quite possibly work better for me, based on my experiences with 32s so far. :/ (My bust measurement should make me a 32, but ... ) Let me know when you've had a chance to sort through your swappables!

  6. Oh, I just figured out that the reason why your etsy link works for you and not for is that it wants to log me in to MY etsy store. (Which is a very boring place. Not even a passing tumbleweed has blown through. Maybe I should fix that.) But anyhow, the path in the link is "... etsy.com/your/listings?blahblahblah ... " and I think the "your" is relative to who is logged in. Hopefully that makes sense.

  7. Andrea, of course...I thought I had fixed it, but I only set it to ME being able to get in. Now it is set to my store and all can take a look. I need to add more items soon...life is very hectic though so unsure when that might happen. We'll figure this out!
