Vintage Vacation circa 1965

Yesterday as I was going through the old family photos to scan my parents wedding pictures, I came upon these pictures which screamed 1960's to me and I wanted to share them with you.
These photos were taken in  October of 1965, which puts me at 6 years old.

This is the Georgian Motel in Lake George, NY. I found its presence on the web, although it has changed so much it is hard to find the remnants found in these pictures in the newer look.

I am the one in the red headband and I clearly remember taking (stealing) this from my older sisters room so I could wear it.

There is something about the lines of the building that makes me feel as though Marilyn Monroe or Lucille Ball might just step out the door at any moment.
Being that it was October, I'm sure the rates for the room were very reasonable. Probably $18.00 per night or less, although we would have needed two rooms.

My parents were not big picture takers.. I don't know what prompted them to take pictures like these. Very unlike them!

Could that be a shuffle board court. Seeing the figure in the background in a red coat, I 'm thinking it is probably me.

I don't remember anything about this vacation. I am guessing again that it might have been a long weekend over Presidents Day. I only have an image of going into my sisters room and taking the headband off of her dresser and hiding it in my suitcase. Obviously she was going to find out about it when I put it on. Heck, what can I say, I was only 6 years old.

Do you have a place that your family went to year after year? Or family vacation photos that are now retro in feel? I would love to see them and share them here.

  1. Ahhhh, The Georgian!!! Frank and I spent several mini vacations there (mostly in the '80's) and to tell you the truth, it wasn't that much different then from what your photos show. Love those old 50's/60's flat roofed motels! Reminds me of Howard Johnson's--to this day I get all excited when I see the colors orange and turquoise together!! Yes, I'm probably as nutty as you:)!

  2. Without a doubt Steph..we are soul sisters. I love the roof line of Howard Johnson's. I went by the old HJ near Pittsfield the other day and thought to myself,"no matter how they change the color of this building..it is and will always look like a HJ. That is what you call GREAT brand power!!!

  4. Very, very nice. ♡ I have all my dad's slides from our many vacations ... though my most vivid vacation memories are of getting car-sick. Probably a piece of why I love staying home now. :)
