Pocket Full of Dreams
In life, sometimes you only get one chance, other times you get more. Sewing sometimes gives you the option to redo a seam or stitch, but life doesn't always give you two chances.. I am getting one chance right now to spend the last few days with my dad. It is a journey of the soul, his and all of those that love him so dearly.
Those that hold him dearest to the heart are gathering to share this journey with him. It is sacred and blessed and I am so honored to be able to help him through it. What a gift it is. I am sitting on his bed with him with Pandora on and Bing Crosby singing "Iv'e Got a Pocket Full of Dreams". He loves his 40's music. He is in a deep drug induced sleep, resting comfortably and peaceful. His pockets are not only filled with dreams, but a lifetime of love both given and received.

I sat exactly where you are last November 25. It was the hardest thing i have ever had to do. I do know that being surrounded by family gave my Dad the strength to face death with dignity and that he never felt more loved than he did surrounded by all of us.
ReplyDeleteI will add your family to my prayers that this is a loving, peaceful journey for you.
I know if your dad could read your beautiful thoughts on the preciousness of these last days together, he would be so happy and proud of his daughter's love for him.
ReplyDeleteYou're in my thoughts, Lisa. I'm so glad you're with your Dad. I think it's how we all hope to spend the end our life's journey -- with those who love us best.
ReplyDeleteI was with both of my parents as they passed from this life to the next. I believe that my parents gave me the precious gift of life and I tried to give them the gift of death. They were always there for me. It was one of the hardest yet most beautiful times in my life. You are a good daughter, Lisa! My prayers are with you and your family.
