A Year's Worth of Sewing Is On It's Way!

It has been, and is remaining, a very busy week for me, so just a quick post today. No hat. No hat? No hat. Maybe tomorrow.

I have been ruminating and struggling with my Carmen Miranda inspired outfit. Mostly because I have a picture in my mind of what I want and now I need to find the patterns, fabric and hat to match. I also want the outfit to be wearable and not some sort of costume. I am thinking of using this fabric for the top and bottom and then adding a ruffle or other detail in a solid color. I just love this fabric. What do YOU think?

I also was over the top and doing cartwheels when I won this lot of 17 patterns on e-bay yesterday. Each and every one is in my size and there is not a loser in the bunch. In a year from now I plan to have made them all and have a complete vintage inspired wardrobe.

I will make BOTH of these on the left. The collar on pink dress is to die for and the blue dress (although it is hard to see in the photo, has covered buttons all the way down to the pleats. And look at those pleats!!!

Red dress on the right has gathers at the bust and look at the sash peplum. I would shorten this one to knee length and it will be perfect in a soft jersey or other flowy knit.
Sorry the photos are grainy, but they are off the sellers e-bay site. I wish you could see the details that make these dresses spectacular. I can't wait to sew a Hollywood pattern
The dress on the left, may well become the top for the Carmen Miranda outfit. How wonderful are those sleeves? And Gertie of Gertie's New Blog for Better Sewing posted about patterns similar to the one on the right, a so called "new look" outfit, just yesterday.

But wait, there's more. DuBerry epitomizes clothing of the 40's. That little play suit number is calling my name. I love the idea of removing the skirt to find shorts underneath. I am giddy with excitement.

I may need to loose 30 pounds in order to look good in the dress on the left. All those ruffles around the waist might be much, but I'll give it a go anyway. And Looking forward to making the blouse on the right and having Sassie Lassie strike a similar pose for the camera.

Gulp. Look at the shoulders on the pattern to the left below. That one might also be great for the Carmen Miranda outfit. I would just use the bodice pieces and put a tie around the waist. Cute!!!

And more peplum to the right!!!! In fact a double peplum!!!

Vogue, vogue and more vogue!
I almost could not sleep last night once I realized I had won these patterns. Some are unprinted, which will be a challenge, and the Vogue patterns are always more detailed than others...I just can't wait to see where this takes me.

Blessings till tomorrow!

  1. Great find, I saw that listing the other day, but they are too small for me. I am contemplating listing some in that size soon, I will let you know, since I have decided if it is way too small, give it up, not enough time.

  4. Incredible win. Congratulations. You have so much fun sewing to look forward to.

If I were you, I would find a way to post all those pretty pattern fronts on the wall. Color copies and collage?
