Distractions Abound

Yesterday I cut out all the muslin fabric for the Men's Shirt Sew-a-Long. Sorry Peter (just after doing this I read his blog where he wrote about how some of us (who me?) were moving ahead before it started. I need all the help I can get...I need to practice, practice...and sew..sew...sew. I have forgotten how to do everything in just 4 short months. I actually had to go back to YouTube and find out how to make tailors tacks again.

I do my preparation the old fashion way with tailor tacks. I have not been able to find a good product that works better for me. I also don't have a table that I lay everything out on, so most of the prep happens in my lap or with me bent over on the floor.

I have also never done anything in plaid or with a fabric that needed matching, so I need more practice. I guess I will see how well I did matching once I get started sewing. I tried being as anal as possible. I mean I really tried. I hope it works. .

As I started marking, ADD (attention to delightful distractions) took full hold. I do not like marking the fabric. So what better way to distract myself than with looking for fabric on the internet. Hours could be lost doing this. I think I hit the jackpot when I found Banksville Designer Fabrics. And the even better news is that it is in my home state.

Look at these fabrics....Do they REALLY have this much? Have any of you done business with them? I see a field trip in the making.

I had sound these fabrics on another site only $120.00 a yard!
What I am thinking of doing at this point is to do the bodice in a beaded or printed silk fabric (will depend on price) and then the skirt and scarf in a chiffon with a gorgeous underlining.
This may end up being a hand sewn dress. Has anyone out there ever sewn with a beaded or sequined silk fabric? Anyone live close to here and want to meet up with me?

  1. I've never sewn with beaded fabric but I have definitely seen The Sewing Divas do it. Not sure if there are tutorials but you may want to take a look to see how they do it. Jacki
