Answers to the Eight Questions....Will You Be Next?

I need to stop sewing for a bit. I am somewhat frustrated and need to step away. Anyone else ever feel like that when sewing? So, having said that, and having just burned the heck out of my thumb when I seared it on a hot iron, I thought I would sit back and answer the 8 questions Trudy of Sewing With Trudy asked me to share.

1. Why do you sew?
I sew because I have found a new found passion for vintage and have always loved to create. It is nice to see a lovely vintage dress on E-Bay and purchase it for a great price, but making one, from a vintage pattern gives me oh so much more satisfaction and fits be better too.

2. Do you have a favorite sewing technique that you could share with us which would help us improve our sewing? I am too new to sewing to have anything which could be described as a technique. "Keep trying" is the best I can do.

3. What are your favorite things you have sewn? I have not sewn all that much as yet, just accumulated lots of patterns in anticipation. I am a bit enamored with all of my creations so far though.
Coffee Klatch Apron
Reversible Rick Rack Dress
Halter Sundress
Parasol Skirt and Top

 4. What are your five most absolute favorite sewing blogs?
Male Pattern Boldness-Who could not LOVE Peter?
Gertie's New Blog for Better Sewing-She mixes lots of technique WITH vintage sewing. We all love her, right?
Molly's Sewing and Garage Sale Adventures-First off I have a daughter named Molly and she loves garage sales too. When I found her blog I was instantly drawn to it just by the name, then fell in love with all she does.
Pattern Junkie-Although not a sewing blog, I love the humorous anecdotes  given to the illustrations on the vintage patterns.
What Would Nancy Drew Wear-Lisette, making great clothes and sharing lots of sewing ideas.

And of course a special shout out to Trudy-Sewing With Trudy

5. When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I don't really recall wanting to be a certain profession when I grew up. I guess I aspired to be a wife and mother. Those are still the greatest things I aspire to be. Raising my two children has been the greatest reward and adventure of my life. Not one day would I change.

6. What is something you would like us to know about you that you have never shared on your blog? That I am a Certified Angel Therapy Practitioner. I am deeply spiritual and trust God to get me through each moment of my life. To me, God, above all else, is all there is.

7. What is your favorite memory from childhood?
I had what could only be described as an idyllic childhood. I grew up in a small close knit New England town. We had tons of snow in the winter and plenty of sugar maple leaves to rake and jump into in the fall. There is a small pond in our town called Toby, that is owned by the Childs' family and made available to the town folks. I went there almost every day in the summer as a child and brought my children there each day during the summer too.

We went to Florida about 5 or 6 times when I was a child. What an adventure that was. All seven of us would load into a wood-sided station wagon and drive for 2 days to get there.
Taking a boat ride on the inter-coastal waterway in Florida
This year we went down to Florida with another family from town who had 5 children.
This photo won't enlarge well enough for the blog to show what a snazzy "sailor" bathing suit I am wearing. Sunglasses on and bathing cap in my hand.

8. Can you share with us any secrets you have learned to successful living or your motto? My motto is " I Surrender This". It is more than a motto for me but rather a way of living. Here is an essay I wrote on Surrender. Spiritual Surrender-Living a Peace Filled Life

If you lived with me, or knew me well, you would know the idea of being Surrendered has been and continues to be a struggle.  But I have come far in the past 10 years and have learned  a new way of dealing with fear. When I created  I Surrender This, when I was able to put  my fears down on paper and let them become God's problem or worry instead of mine, my life changed for the better. It has helped me in more ways than I could write about. Maybe it could help you!
If any of you reading this would like one, just e-mail me and I will get you one for half price plus shipping.

Now to tag a few more people and give them their questions.

  2. Thanks for the mention! :) I think the idea of surrendering something can help all of us, whether we are religious or spiritual or not, so thank you for that.

Also, I get that need-to-step-away feeling every now and then. Don't worry, it will pass. I think it's all part of growing as a seamstress, so don't feel defeated.

  3. Love the picture of us with the Satherlie's!!! Where did you find that one? And the boat shot? Uncle Bill's boat? It's TOBEY pond just in case someone wants to google it and I am pretty damn sure it took THREE entire days to get to the sunshine state!!! How lucky we were (are!) OX
